Through a series of hands-on sessions, you will develop a range of core surgical skills and techniques. Each skill will be introduced with a step-by-step demonstration, before participants practice the technique.
After attending this course, you should have revised and gained both core and new skills in open surgery. You should be able to:
demonstrate safe operating techniques
perform a number of advanced instrument handling skills
understand and appreciate recent innovations in the use of suture materials for wound closure
perform a urinary cystotomy in a safe and confident manner
perform an end-to-end anastomosis of the small intestine in a safe and confident manner
understand the pros and cons of leak testing a cystotomy and enterotomy/enterectomy
understand the importance of, and be able to perform, tying a surgical knot under tension
Who is it for?
This course is designed as a natural progression from the Core Surgical Skills 1 course.After attending this course, you should have revised and gained core skills in open surgery.This highly practical, workshop-led course is based on the Royal College of Surgeons Intercollegiate Core Surgical Skills Course, which is curriculum mandated training for core surgery training in the medical profession.
