Battersea is seeking a Student Veterinary Nurse to join our London clinical team to provide the very best care for the thousands of animals that pass through our centre every year. You will contribute to this by providing the highest standards of care in all clinical procedures, surgery, preventative medicine and infection control, observing the best principles of shelter medicine.
As a Student Veterinary Nurse, you’ll have plenty of time to provide hands-on care for our animals in our approved training centre for veterinary nurses. You’ll be working alongside colleagues across the charity to make a difference for every animal that comes through our gates, whether that’s our large volunteer and fostering team or helping out at events. We are all here to champion rescue animals when it comes to finding the best possible outcome.
Our clinic is RCVS accredited with three surgical theatres, a separate dental suite with radiography, digital radiography and high quality ultrasound. To assist with recovery, we also have a 6 meter hydrotherapy pool and water walker on site. We have separate dog and cat facilities and have previously achieved gold standard in iCatCare’s ‘cat friendly clinic’ programme.
In order to be eligible for this role, you must have suitable qualifications in order to enrol in the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) for the level 3 diploma in Veterinary Nursing.
What we can offer you:
In return for your commitment to our cause and to recognise the value of our employees, Battersea offers a range of benefits to support the wellbeing of our employees. These include:
• 28 days of annual leave (plus 8 days paid public holidays) per year
• Discounted gym memberships and cycle to work schemes
• Cost-price veterinary care for animals rehomed from Battersea
• Employee Assistance Programme and access to Wellbeing Resources
• Generous pension contributions – up to 10% employer contribution
• Free healthcare cash plan, where you can claim for a range of treatment including dental, optical, physiotherapy, chiropody and acupuncture every year
• Annual interest-free season ticket loans
We are also committed to providing learning and development to our employees. During your time with us, we provide support for your professional and career development, including access to digital and in-person training programmes, leadership and management training, mentoring and much more.
Working with our dogs and cats:
We are here for every dog and cat. Within our operational roles, this means providing the highest level of care and husbandry to our animals. Every day will be different and will sometimes involve emotionally challenging situations. Battersea has created an ethos of open conversations and carefully curated wellbeing initiatives to support our employees handling these scenarios. It is also important to note that the role is very physical and does involve a lot of manual tasks which are required to provide the exceptional standards of care to our animals. We ask you consider these aspects of the role carefully before applying.
Diversity and inclusion:
At Battersea, we are committed to developing and supporting a diverse workforce and inclusive culture in all aspects of our organisation. We aim to ensure that this pledge, reinforced by our values, is embedded in our day-to-day working practices and our work together.
By hearing from and valuing different experiences, perspectives, and contributions, we know we can provide the best expert care for every dog and cat who needs us. We welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly those from diverse ethnic communities and people with disabilities, who we know are currently underrepresented in our workforce.
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we will ask about any adjustments you may need at application and/or interview stage, and if you are offered a role with us, we’ll talk to you about any workplace adjustments you may need to help you perform at your best. If you would like to talk more about this, please contact [email protected] or call us on 020 3887 8341.
More about us:
At Battersea, we aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help. We give each one lots of love, expert care and get to know their characters and quirks so we can find them a new home that’s just right for them. Join us and help us be here for every dog and cat, wherever they are, for as long as they need us.
