Are you an experienced and motivated Equine Nurse looking for the next step in your career? We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head Veterinary Nurse to lead our clients nursing team and contribute to the smooth operation of their busy and advanced equine practice.
As Head Nurse, you will be responsible for leading the nursing team, overseeing day-to-day operations, running consults, and supporting the wider clinical team. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring and developing our nurses and assistants, ensuring the highest standards of equine care.
** Hours: 08:00 am – 17:00 pm, Monday to Friday
** Breaks: 1-hour unpaid lunch break

The equine practice is a state-of-the-art, referral hospital equipped with cutting-edge technology, including MRI, CT, a dedicated repro unit, and isolation and stable blocks. They manage a wide variety of medical cases, from minor injuries to major surgeries, offering you exceptional clinical exposure and the chance to further develop your expertise.
The practice is home to a team of 25 Vet Surgeons, including four specialists in equine surgery, internal medicine, and reproduction. You will lead a dedicated nursing team, consisting of four qualified nurses, nursing students, and one equine nursing assistant.
As Head Veterinary Nurse, you’ll have varied duties, including:
- Leading the nursing team and managing training, equipment, and rota planning
- Ensuring the correct use of PPE and adherence to policies and procedures
- Working alongside the Clinic Receptionist and Head Groom to coordinate the week's workload
- Organising and supporting clinical training and quality control for the nursing team
- Assisting with patient care, especially when the hospital is at full capacity
Weekend/On-Call Duties:
** On-call weekends start from Friday at 17:30 until Monday at 08:00. You’ll assist with regular duties during these hours, authorised by the senior clinician on call.
** After an on-call weekend, you’ll be entitled to Monday morning or afternoon off, allowing you to recover and recharge.
