Location: Horsham, West Sussex (Based at both Storrington and Chichester)

Hours: 7pm - 8am, various shift patterns available (7 on 7 off or 7 on 14 off). Shift options and additional holiday entitlement are open to discussion.

Job Summary:
Our client is currently seeking a dedicated Night Veterinary Surgeon to join their dynamic team in West Sussex. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing out-of-hours care to our patients at our Storrington and Chichester practices. This role demands a high level of expertise in emergency and critical care, as well as the ability to mentor and foster a learning environment for the supporting nurses.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide urgent and emergency care to animals during the night shift, ensuring all patients receive the highest standard of medical attention.
- Diagnose and treat a wide variety of clinical conditions, performing necessary surgeries and procedures as required.
- Support and guide 1 or 2 nurses who will assist during the shift, creating a cooperative and educational working atmosphere.
- Safeguard and promote the ethos of clinical excellence within the practice.
- Maintain timely and accurate records of patient care and treatments administered.
- Work closely with colleagues, handling the unpredictable nature of emergency veterinary care with composure.
- Communicate effectively with pet owners, offering reassurance and information about their pet's condition and the treatments provided.
- Report to the lead vet or clinical lead, ensuring continuity of patient care across shifts.
- Demonstrate confidence in all aspects of veterinary care, while being self-aware and recognizing own limitations.

Requirements:

- Must possess excellent skills in emergency and critical care (ECC).
- Experience in coaching or mentoring staff is highly desirable.
- Demonstrable ability to uphold and further clinical excellence within the practice.
- Be confident yet self-aware, recognizing the importance of teamwork and the limitations inherent to the veterinary profession.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver exemplary customer service.
- Ability to adapt to the varied demands of out-of-hours veterinary care.

Qualifications:

- A degree in Veterinary Medicine.
- Registration with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
- Proven experience as an emergency and critical care veterinary surgeon is essential.
