CVS is launching a unique MiGuide ‘pocket’ resource to provide vets and nurses with the clinical information they need every day in first opinion companion animal practice.

Thought to be a first in the profession, the essential clinical resource sits in a well-structured portal that can be accessed easily on a phone.

The portal houses all of the ‘kennel side’ veterinary guidelines, notes and charts that clinicians would need to refer to in day-to-day companion animal practice – all in one place.

It includes clinical guidelines, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, dentistry and toxicology sections, along with an antibiotic guide. It also contains links to CVS’ Small Animal Hub, Nursing Hub and Knowledge Hub, for clinicians to access hundreds of associated training courses. In addition, CVS’ colleagues can access its Vet Oracle specialist telemedicine and Advanced Clinical Services Network support teams through the hub.

The content of the portal is easy to access, with well catalogued and easy-to-navigate sections. The quality information contained within the library is concise, to the point, and ‘quick reference’ in format.

It is hoped that the breadth of information contained on the portal will improve and speed up clinical decision making, making recommendations to clients easier - and ultimately improving patient outcomes.

The hub is the brain-child of Alan Johnson, Regional Clinical Lead at CVS. It has taken many months to develop. Over time new sections will be added to the portal, as the resource is expanded out.

Talking about its development, Alan said: “Every day in practice is different. You regularly have to do things you have not done for a while. So you either have to recall how to do them or spend time looking them up. This can be especially difficult when you are looking for very specific information which is buried in a textbook.

“I wanted to consolidate the key clinical information that every colleague needs every day - all in one location. I wanted to make information easy to find at a few clicks. And I wanted vets and nurses to have this information in their pocket – to refer to if the need arose.

“We hope our new portal is helpful and supportive – and makes daily practice smoother for our vets and nurses. And we hope that it improves and speeds up clinical decision-making to provide the best care for our patients.”

The new MiGuide resource has been made accessible to all of CVS group’s first opinion veterinarians and veterinary nurses from March 2025.

CVS Group operates across small animal, farm animal, equine, laboratories and crematoria, with over 500 veterinary practices and referral centres in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands and Australia. In the last five years the company has invested nearly £80 million in its sites, facilities and equipment, in addition to industry leading training and support, to give the best possible care to animals.
