RCVS Academy Launches New Leadership Vs Management Course
The RCVS Academy, a free, digital learning platform for the veterinary professions, has launched a new leadership vs management course, designed to help learners understand the difference between leadership and management and how they interact in the workplace.
The course explains the key distinctions between leadership and management and explores the attributes associated with leaders and managers.
RCVS Leadership and Inclusion Manager, Gurpreet Gill, developed the course content. She said: “Leadership and management are terms that are often used interchangeably, and this can sometimes cause confusion. Our new Academy course has been designed as a short introduction for anyone seeking to understand the difference between leadership and management and the ways in which they can be applied effectively.
“As well as exploring key ideas and definitions on the differences between the two concepts, our course will help you to identify situations that demonstrate when you are leading and when you are managing. The course also helps you to consider leadership and management skills and how you can refine your own style and approach.”
“We completely understand how busy working in the veterinary professions can be so this course, as with the others available on the Academy, has been designed to fit around your work schedule. It contains a mix of reflective and practical exercises and takes around 45 minutes to an hour to complete. It can be completed in stages, and you can choose which sections you would find most useful to focus on.”
The course can be accessed for free via the RCVS Academy using the ‘My Account’ login details, where other courses in areas such as career development, concerns support, the VetGDP, client communications, and advice for student & newly qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses are also available.
Learning on the Academy is developed by the RCVS and offers the ability to plan and track your learning. QR codes and direct links make it simple to record and reflect on what you have learned in the RCVS 1CPD platform, which all registered members of the profession must now use in order to meet the RCVS CPD requirements.
If you have any questions about the Academy or any suggestions for improvement, please contact academy@rcvs.org.uk.
