VMG Expands Board Of Directors To Strengthen Leadership Team
The Veterinary Management Group (VMG) has expanded its board of directors, welcoming seven new members who bring additional expertise and experience to its leadership team. They are:
- Christy Lightley - Head of Marketing at IMV Imaging, Christy is committed to fostering educated and motivated teams and helping individuals reach their full potential
- Helen Mason – a certified Team Coach, Helen specialises in Women’s Leadership and Working Parents and focuses on building trust and improving team performance
- Leah Morley – having originally qualified as a vet nurse in Australia, Leah has been working in regional leadership roles in the veterinary sector across the UK. She is passionate about diversity and member of the British Veterinary LGBT+ committee.
- Louise Newman – a veterinary nurse and team leader, Louise heads up the Blue Cross’ flagship animal hospital in London and was the Petplan Practice Manager of the Year in 2023
- James Portsmouth – Principal Referral Vet at not-for-profit Animal Trust, James has a strong interest in organisational culture, change management and the development of new managers
- Claire Smith – the owner of independent clinic Beacon View Vets, Claire is passionate about fostering excellence in veterinary leadership and management and to supporting diverse journeys within the profession
- Andrew Whitfield-Roberts – Head Nurse at a White Cross dual site, Andrew is passionate about nurse utilisation, management and team development. He holds a diploma in coaching.
The new directors’ appointments will be ratified at the VMG’s Annual General Meeting ahead of VMG Congress, which takes place from 23-25 April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon.
VMG President Liz Somerville commented: “We’re delighted to welcome our new board members, who bring us additional valuable skills in key areas such as marketing, communications and change management. Their knowledge and experience will help us better support both our members and the wider veterinary profession as we navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.
“The VMG leadership team is looking forward to meeting members and colleagues face-to-face for energising discussions on all aspects of veterinary leadership at VMG Congress in April, which will, once again, offer two days of learning, sharing and inspiration to all.”
As the professional association for veterinary leaders and managers, the VMG empowers and equips veterinary professionals through education, networking, and leadership development. The VMG/ILM Award, Certificate, and Diploma in Veterinary Leadership and Management are modular qualifications designed for flexibility, accessibility, and real-world application.
