A COUNTY Durham veterinary practice has provided a huge boost for pet owners with the opening of a new branch in Newton Aycliffe.

Wilson Vets transformed an empty shop unit on Greenwell Road into a modern vibrant veterinary practice and relocated there from nearby Neville Parade, Newton Aycliffe.

The move means the team is able to expand services to meet demand from clients and their pets and provide new and improved facilities.

The new practice boasts the latest hi-tech equipment and facilities, including digital X-ray and ultrasound equipment, an operating theatre, a dental suite with a digital X-ray machine, and a dedicated laboratory.

There are three consulting rooms, compared with just two at the former site, enabling veterinary nurses to hold more clinics such as puppy checks and pet weight sessions, and provide some services more frequently.

Pets benefit from designated dog and cat waiting areas in the spacious reception while there are also separate wards at the new practice on Greenwell Road to keep cats away from the sight and sounds of dogs to help them stay calm during their visit.

The practice unveiled the new branch at a special open day for current and prospective clients when visitors were able to view behind the scenes and meet the veterinary team.

Claire Bake is the practice manager at Wilson Vets, which also has branches in Spennymoor as well as in Bishop Auckland which provides out-of-hours emergency care.

Miss Bake said: “After outgrowing our previous building, we are delighted that our search for a new site is over, and we have found the perfect new home. We are providing a much more modern, vibrant clinic, where we will be able to provide a wider range of services for our clients and better facilities for our patients.

“Many pet owners have been with us for a long time, and there is also a lot of demand for quality pet care in the area, so we’re excited to be able to welcome old and new clients to our lovely new practice. We have also created a great place to work for our dedicated team members as our veterinary nurses, vets and receptionists have an area to relax and unwind when they have their break.”

Wilson Vets’ physiotherapy service is also expanding in another welcome boost for pets. Physiotherapy can help to support recovery from surgery or injury and provides a form of pain relief for conditions such as arthritis, helping to improve quality of life.
