A leading Acocks Green vet practice is helping an asthmatic cat to be more mobile and energetic by improving its diet.

Eight-and-a-half-year-old Kitty has lost more than 1kg in weight in just a few months since first attending the weight clinic led by veterinary nurses at Linnaeus-owned 608 Vet Practice.

The improved diet has seen Kitty’s weight drop to just 5.71kg and, just as importantly, she is much more active in herself at home.

Alison Pett, lead nurse at 608 Vets, said: “I have seen Kitty at the weight clinic every couple of months.

“We started her on a trial using different diets and special diet food which has worked well. We also reduced the number of treats that Kitty had per day. She is much more active at home already and the weight loss has helped with her underlying asthma.

“It’s a great result all round and I’m incredibly proud of Kitty, her owner and our team of dedicated veterinary nurses who have made this possible and built a really close bond with Kitty.”

The weight clinics see the animals being weighed, with nurses then advising diets, treats, and best ways to increase the animal’s exercise in a safe manner.

Future appointments are then arranged to reweigh the animal and talk about how they have got on since the previous appointment.

The weight clinics at 608 Vets in Acocks Green are run every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Pet owners wishing to join should contact the surgery on 0121 706 1870.
