Virbac, a pioneer in pet dental health and the veterinary market dental leader1, is delighted to announce the next stage in the evolution of canine dental care, VETERINARY HPM® Small & Toy; a new and improved formulation which combines high quality nutrition and advanced oral care in a single product.

Designed exclusively for small & toy dogs of all ages, neutered or entire, VETERINARY HPM® Small & Toy has been specifically designed to provide optimal preventative nutrition.

Advanced Oral Care

Dental health and good dental care is important for all dogs, but particularly small & toy breeds who have a recognised predisposition to dental issues. 90% of dogs over 1 year of age are impacted by dental issues including plaque, tartar, gingivitis and halitosis2, but small breed dogs are 5 times more likely to have dental issues than large breeds3. Pet owner compliance is a contributing factor with less than 1 in 4 dog owners using daily oral health care products on their dog4.

The new and improved VETERINARY HPM® Small & Toy range contains Ascophyllum Nodosum, a 100% natural ingredient from the Atlantic Ocean. Ascophyllum Nodosum has scientifically proven activity on 4 aspects of oral and dental health: calculus index, volatile sulphur compound concentration, plaque index and gingival bleeding index5. Absorbed in the small intestine and then secreted into the oral cavity via saliva, Ascophyllum Nodosum has been shown to inhibit some pathways involved in plaque or calculus development6.

In addition to the passive dental care provided by Ascophyllum Nodosum, the range also features 2 new kibble sizes (10.5mm & 7.5mm), specifically adapted for smaller mouths.

Nutritional Benefits

VETERINARY HPM® Small & Toy supports canine carnivorous nutritional needs with a high-protein and low-carbohydrate content, offering -33% less carbohydrate and +34% more protein, on average compared to other brands sold in veterinary practices7. 90% of the protein included in the diets is also from animal protein.

The highly palatable diets also contain carefully selected nutritional supplements, which combined with VETERINARY HPM®’s unique high-protein low-carbohydrate formulation, target the key health challenges of small & toy breeds including body weight control, skin & coat condition and healthy digestion.

Small & Toy Dogs

Small & toy dogs are becoming an increasingly important part of veterinary practice activity. 1 out of 2 dogs globally are less than 10kg8, their owners are committed to the wellbeing of their pets and small & toy dogs have a longer life expectancy8.

VETERINARY HPM® Small & Toy can be recommended with confidence to maintain optimal health in your small & toy breed patients.
