The new lead vet at a busy Cambridgeshire veterinary practice is aiming to use her position to help further build client relationships.

Fiona McGuckin has taken on the lead vet role at Linnaeus-owned Village Vet Longstanton and will be a familiar face to many, having worked in the Cambridge area for many years.

Born in Ireland, Fiona graduated from University College Dublin in 2001 and shortly afterwards, she took her first job in Norfolk in a first opinion practice, where she was a key member of the team for six years.

This was followed by two-and-a-half years being a locum in the Norfolk and Cambridge area before taking her first role with Village Vet, working mainly nights and weekends.

She continued with Village Vet working within all its practices in the region, before returning to night work for almost six years – at the same time as having two children.

The next stage in Fiona’s career saw her transfer to day shifts at Village Vet’s Milton practice and now she takes on the permanent role of lead vet for the first time.

Fiona said: “I enjoy emergency work and love surgery but I am keen to develop a more routine long-term relationship with clients now.

“I am also keen to highlight to clients the values of the great relationship we have with Milton and Vet24, our out-of-hours service, in terms of medical workups and longer-term hospitalisations, and the value of the overnight care we offer.”

Outside of work, Fiona, who has four cats of her own, enjoys reading, sewing and spending time with her family.

Village Vet provides exceptional veterinary care thanks to an expert team working within state-of-the-art facilities. For more information, visit https://villagevet.co.uk
