Registered Veterinary Nurse Susan In Line For A Prestigious Award
A registered veterinary nurse at one of the UK’s leading animal hospitals is in the running for a top industry award.
Senior oncology nurse Susan Keefe, from Linnaeus-owned Southfields Veterinary Specialists in Basildon, Essex, has been nominated for a British Veterinary Nursing Association Nursing Empowerment Award.
It is in recognition of her work creating and introducing a specially-designed induction programme for fellow oncology nurses.
Nicola Barrigan, head of nursing services at Southfields, is delighted Susan has been nominated.
Nicola said: “Susan has worked incredibly hard to successfully create and introduce the oncology nursing induction programme at Southfields.
“It enables selected registered veterinary nurses to safely prepare and deliver chemotherapy treatments.
“Susan done such a wonderful job at creating this passport that she has already assisted other Linnaeus practices with the introduction of their own oncology services and she was deservedly shortlisted for the Linnaeus Achievement Award for Quality earlier this year.
“Her work has made a real impact. At our 2023 nurse open day the oncology demonstration and participation sessions went down an absolute storm with our visitors, and this was a creative and innovative way to showcase the oncology service and their fabulous team.
“So huge congratulations to Susan on yet more recognition and the best of luck at the awards.
“We are all very proud of her and grateful for her contributions towards the development and empowerment of our nursing team and the wider profession.”
Susan said: “I’m deeply honoured to have been put forward for this prestigious award and I’d like to wish all the amazing finalists the best of luck. I hope the oncology nursing induction programme is making a tangible difference to my fellow oncology nurses.”
