Veterinary Specialists Scotland Appoints Head Of Nursing
The new head of nursing at one of Scotland’s leading veterinary referral centres has spoken of her aims and ambitions in the newly-created management role.
Linnaeus-owned Veterinary Specialists Scotland (VSS), in Livingston, has appointed the highly-experienced Angela Ferrier to lead its team of registered vet nurses (RVNs) and veterinary care assistants (VCA).
It’s a happy homecoming for Angela, who qualified as a vet nurse more than 20 years ago and has a certificate in emergency and critical care, as she grew up in the Livingston area.
Now, she is excited to be working as part of the senior VSS team to ensure the state-of-the-art referral centre delivers the best treatment and care to its patients.
Angela said: “Having grown up in Livingston, I just loved the idea of starting at a newly-built local referral centre, in a role where I could have an input from the very beginning.
“It’s so exciting to be able to contribute ideas into how the structure of the centre should work and to be part of the growing success of VSS.
“I know a lot of the local practices and it’s great to finally see a referral service offered in the area.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of the senior leadership team and delivering a strong clinical and operational performance.
“My main responsibility is to represent the nursing/VCA team and work with each individual to maintain a happy, efficient working environment and support everyone’s development and progression.
“The team is really amazing and they’ve all been very supportive since I arrived here and we all share the same goal – to ensure VSS provides the very best level of care and service, and is successful in every way.”
Angela’s successful career has seen her operate as a deputy head of medicine/emergency critical care and head nurse of a Glasgow hospital where she oversaw all disciplines.
Angela first joined Linnaeus-owned Veterinary Specialists Scotland in September 2020 as a senior nurse in ICU and her positive impact has now seen her promoted to head of nursing.
VSS hospital director Greg Barbour said: “We’re delighted Angela has agreed to become our head of nursing and look forward to her working closely with the management team.
“We will look to her nursing expertise and experience to help create an ideal working scenario that will benefit everyone – our vets, our nursing team and, of course, our patients.”
VSS is a specialist-led multidisciplinary referral centre offering industry-leading services in cardiology, internal medicine (feline and canine), neurology, orthopaedics, and soft tissue surgery, supported by specialists in diagnostic imaging and anaesthesia and analgesia.
