A leading Dublin animal hospital has its sights firmly fixed on the future with the appointment of a new veterinary ophthalmologist.

Thomas Large has joined Linnaeus-owned Primrose Hill Veterinary Hospital in Sallynoggin, County Dublin, which offers a dedicated ophthalmology referral service for cases from across Ireland.

Thomas, who graduated from the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science in 2015, said: “I’m really enjoying working with the Primrose Hill veterinary ophthalmology team as it continues providing excellent ophthalmology care to small animal patients in Ireland.”

After graduating, Thomas started in general practice in the UK for two years before commencing a rotating internship at DWR Veterinary Specialists, also owned by Linnaeus, in Cambridgeshire.

He then progressed to a specialist ophthalmology internship, which led to starting a European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ECVO) residency programme.

It was during the residency that Thomas was trained by diplomate veterinary ophthalmologists and also produced and published two scientific papers in the journal ‘Veterinary Ophthalmology’, which he presented at the 2021 ECVO congress.

Thomas, who is currently working on passing his final board examinations to become a ECVO diplomate and particularly enjoys cataract surgery, added: “I’ve been very impressed with the high standard of patient care at Primrose Hill and am enjoying getting to know the team.”

Outside of work, Thomas enjoys walking his dog Finn, a Springer cross Cocker Spaniel.

Primrose Hill’s highly skilled and qualified ophthalmology team offers delicate high-tech procedures such as cataract removal and lens implants helping restore sight to many blind animals.
